WAYS TO WEAR - The Blanket Scarf

I suppose we can now safely say that Autumn is here, summer is long gone! The air feels crisper and colder, leaves are changing from green to those beautiful reds, oranges, yellows and browns. I love the fashion come Autumn, wearing layers upon layers, also the colour palettes that are used. One trend that is standing strong is the oh-so warming blanket scarf.

Blanket scarves are larger than the standard scarf, it can seem a little overwhelming to some people how big they can sometimes unfold to. I find blanket scarves a great fashion accessory, because you can wear it in so many ways! This post features a few snaps of how you can style a blanket scarf, also ways that I've been wearing the blanket scarf!

The one i'm wearing in this picture you can find here. It's the emerald check blanket scarf from Accessorize - £19.

Details of the other items i'm wearing will be linked at the end of this post!

My favourite way to wear the blanket scarf is the way that is shown in the final image. Folding it in half to reduce the width but not the length, wrapping it over my shoulders, and wearing a belt around my waist, keeping the scarf in place!

MAKEUP 101: Cleaning makeup brushes

I love seeing all of these makeup tutorials out there on the internet, so much inspiration can be found with new tips and tricks always creeping their way onto my phone or laptop screen. One thing that comes to my mind is that behind all these tutorials and techniques there is a makeup 101, or makeup basis you could say that should always be followed! In this case, keeping your makeup brushes clean.

Everyday you are using makeup products on the bristles of those brushes and everyday you add more to the brush which then gets applied to your skin. Everyday that passes by, bacteria gathers on the brushes. Especially when you have a few spots on your skin, the brush becomes contaminated and spreads the bacteria of the spots across your skin - leaving you with even more spots.

Ideally I wash my makeup brushes once a week - it tends to fall on a sunday when I sometimes have a lazy-no-makeup-day. I clean the majority (if not all) of my makeup brushes, even if there's a few that I haven't used since the last wash, because they could have been sitting there gathering dust. (I have them all in a little pot on my bedroom table, they only tend to go in a makeup bag when i'm travelling!

I give them a good clean with a gentle shampoo or baby shampoo which you can easily pick up from a superstore or drugstore. Normally I go for the Johnsons baby shampoo as you can see in the above picture. By all means you can use something a little more to your preference, but I just like the smell of this one! haha!

I just squidge a dollop of baby shampoo on my fingertips, wet the brush with warm water and then swirl it around gently. You'll notice that the makeup will come off the bristles pretty easily. once the brush looks like its usual clean state, rinse under warm water again until the liquid running from it becomes clear and all of the suds are out. Depending on what makeup product you had on the brush ie. foundation, you might need to repeat this. Don't fret though, just use a little less shampoo than what you did the first time, and repeat the rinsing process.

Once a brush is clean, I lay it on my radiator to air dry. Don't worry, I don't turn it on! Usually they take the majority of the day to dry completely, but if you are pushed for time, you can always carefully brush them in circular motions against a soft dry cloth to help speed up the process. Depending how many brushes you have or perhaps how many you were wanting to clean up, this can take some time to complete. But it's really important that you don't let the product build up get to ghastly on your brushes, otherwise it'll become a bacteria party and you'll definitely have spots along as party crashers!

Beauty Advent calendars to look out for this Christmas

Yup, I did it. I dropped the 'C-Bomb' and it's still October. Don't get me wrong I love Christmas and the buzz of the festive spirit you see everywhere. Christmas hits home for me as soon as it strikes December 1st. We are all familiar with Christmas Advent calendars that seem to sneak on the shelves as soon as summer seems to come to an end.  This year I've shown more interest into the world of beauty and have been browsing the lines of various beauty advent calendars.  There were a few that caught my eye.... *hint hint to anyone who fancies to purchase me one ;)* Just because I don't want to spoil any surprises, so i've tried to show pictures of the calendars without the products on show. By all means browse the websites since they specify what products are included! x

Benefit - £60
"It's never been for fun to countdown to gorgeous"
I love Benefit Cosmetics as much as the next gal, seeing this advent brings me joy and sadness. The joyful part being that a girl can never have too big a makeup and cosmetics collection, but sadness due to the fact that it's out of stock on their website *sob sob*.

This is an exciting one for you nail polish lovers out there! Ciate have released a calender that surprises you with 17 mini nail polishes from their popular colour collection, 5 mini textured polishes, one full size paint pot as well as some exclusive festive nail stickers! Ah! How could you not be excited for this? I'd want to paint my nails everyday to match the new colour (whilst trying to shrug off the thought of how bad it must be for your nails to switch up your polish so frequently!).

"Count down to Christmas with skin-loving style!" Ah i'm a big big fan of skincare especially when it comes to facial skincare. This is another advent calendar i'd know i'd love to have! You get a real variety of products with this calendar, ranging form skin care, makeup, bath and pamper products! To add to that feel-good-factor, if you purchase this Christmas treat from Bodyshop, either via their website or in store. Bodyshop have teamed up with War Child - which is a Global charity for children that have been affected by war, to grant them the wish of education. Bodyshop have selected gifts this year from their gifting range, that once purchased "no matter how big or small", it will enable a child to have a chance with education by attending a class. Now isn't that heart warming for this festive season? :) By all means click the link to the Bodyshop website to find out more information.

There are many more out there, many different brands. I kind of wish I could have all of them. But alas, i'll be giving up the chocolate calendar to hopefully get my hands on one beauty calendar this year!

Accessorizing yourself this Autumn

1. Knitted Faux Fur Trim Poncho - Accessorize £35
2. Velvet Scrunchies - Miss Selfridge  £5 each
3. Burgundy Touch Screen Gloves - Urban Outfitters £10
4. Classic Leather Satchel - Topshop £30 (was £65*)
5. Black Frill Trim Umbrella - Newlook £7.99

Those of us out there are finally letting go of those last glimpses of summer and now fully embracing these colder months (I've been one of those people!). The things I love about Autumn are the colours and the opportunity to layer up for the colder season. Colours become darker and richer, navy blues, emerald greens, lets not forget the oh-so-popular burgundy. I've put together a few things that are sitting on my wishlist right now to add to my autumnal wardrobe.

Ponchos and wrap-overs are making a return this autumn. So many lovely colours and stitching patterns yet the simplicity of black wins me over every time. What I really like about this particular poncho from Accessorize is that the faux fur collar is detachable. It gives the item more diversity - considering its plain in comparison to others! Personally I'd wear it around the house or even more comfortably indoors without the collar attached, but the grey collar finishes it off with that warming autumnal feeling.

I think i'm going scrunchy mad recently. There's nothing i've been enjoying more than having a messy 'top-knot' in my hair that's being hugged by one of these velvety bad boys! I'm not sure what it is about them, I think it reminds me of when I was a little girl!

I'm so undecided about gloves this season! *puts hand in the air* I admit i'm the type of gal thats always 'near' my phone - shall I say? I suppose it's force of habit from spending years in a previous job working for a mobile phone network... I find touch screen gloves so handy yet some are just so ugly! I'm not a big fan of neon pinks and purples - especially with knitted winter wear. I think these are such a lovely colour, easily pairable with matching coloured scarves and knitted bobble hats. These are a definite must this year for my freezing cold hands.

So doing a bit of window shopping (as you do!) on Topshop's website and I happily stumbled across this leather satchel. I think satchels are a timeless fashion accessory, even better when you can get a leather one for such a bargain price! (**Currently on sale at the timing of this post.)

If you live in the good ol' UK like I do. You'll know it rains - a lot! A cute little handbag friendly umbrella is an essential this time of the year. I like to keep it simple but stylish with a black umbrella with a simple frill detail.

My new tea tree favourite...

If you've either got troubled skin or you are just wanting to keep away blemishes, tea tree will always be a friend to your skin. So when you have a face mask lover (like myself!) finding a tea tree one is a bonus!

Tea tree is known rather widely across the skin care world. It helps to heal and soothe the skin. For those of you who aren't too familiar or are new to these types of products, tea tree is a non-harsh treatment for blemishes. Perfect if you have sensitive skin!

The Bodyshop have a wide range of products that fall in their tea tree collection, i'm sure you'll find the perfect product to fit into your skin routine - cleansers, toners, serums, moisturisers and masks!

I enjoy using face masks a few times a week on my skin. Probably 3/4 mornings/nights a week (using different varieties though!) This one is great for when my skin feels congested or is in need of a nice deep cleanse!

One thing I love about this mask is that it's non-drying. It's not like a clay face mask that dries and crackles on the skin. Smooth a layer over clean skin, avoiding the eye area and lips (you might find the menthol in the mask is a little too much for those areas). Even though that can happen, is still suitable for sensitive skin! I'd just want to say, depending on your sensitivity just be cautious on your first use. I'd recommend popping into your local Bodyshop and ask for a sample amount before you purchase. I really enjoy the smell of tea tree regardless, but this isn't too over powering like how some face masks can be. The mask itself costs £10 but a little really does go a long way. Keeping it in a cool dry place will also prolong its shelf life! £10 might seem pricey, but the Bodyshop usually have promotions on their website or through a third party voucher website/app! I really recommend this if you haven't yet tried it, your skin will feel refreshed! You can click this link to view the face mask on the bodyshop website!

Is there anything you would recommend for blemished skin that works a treat?

They're Real Gel Liner Pen Dupe?!

I was pondering around Superdrug and noticed this sitting there waving it's little imaginary arms at me trying to grasp my attention. Its the Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner Pen. Gel liner pens are new to the makeup world, you're all probably familiar with the oh so famous - They're Real Gel Liner Pen from Benefit Cosmetics - except this is a fraction of the price.

I've been so indecisive about purchasing the Benefit gel liner pen, my main concern being 'what if I purchase it - but it's no good for me?'. Well i'm more than happy to bite the bullet (or in this case, pen?) and sacrifice a mere £8.99 to give this baby a try.

For any makeup newbies out there (hello!) You have pencil eyeliners which i'd recommend if you're trying to grab the concept of eyeliner, a liquid liner for more of a sleek and clean glide across the eye, then you have gel liner - similar to a liquid form, but a thicker consistency. It also is meant to have a longer lasting 'stay put' power to it.

I find gel liners a little tricky, since you're usually supplied with a pot of formula and a small brush. That's all too messy for me, hence why the pen design wins my attention.

The lid of the pen simply unscrews, which is handy so you don't have it accidentally fall off whilst on your travels, resulting in the gel formula drying up. One point in the Beautiboe points bank! You'll notice like in my first image here, there's an orange nib which keeps the shaping of the silicon pen tip in shape. I can only assume that its there to benefit the manufacturing process? Simply in excitement i've pretty much misplaced the orange nib!

I suppose it makes the packaging 'less pretty' in comparison to the They're Real Gel Liner Pen, but I do like how the end of this pen specifies how you should only need one click of the pen to push up enough formula to not create a messy gel smudge on your eyelids. On the first use you need to twist the pen a fair amount to work the product up the neck and to the silicon tip.

It's quite simple to work the pen, I think it'll take a few tries to truly master how to use this to perfection on the eyelid but i'm certainly up for giving it a go! Maybelline recommend that you simply use a waterproof makeup remover to remove this product. I just wanted to see how much it would budge if you weren't to use the recommended product. Lets say it doesn't really budge - which is awesome to know if you reply on stay-put makeup! I beliebe oil based makeup removers will also remove this product without any irritation from rubbing.

I like to use the MAC Cleanse Off Oil. Followed by a normal makeup remover - usually the Garnier Micellar Water cleanser.

I've worn this liner from dawn to dusk, i'm more than happy to say it still looks like it's been freshly applied! I'd really recommend this product to those that are on a lower budget for makeup, or simply aren't sure about Gel Liner pens and want to try it without blowing the bank for the They're Real Gel Liner pen from Benefit Cosmetics!

Cold Cream Cleanser Craze! - Product review

Oh gosh, here's my morning face >.<!

We all hate to admit it, but i'm sure everyone at some point has woken up in the morning and had the sudden realisation that they forgot to take their makeup off the night before. See the above image for example, my skin clearly isn't happy about the dirt trapped in my pores and old mascara on my lashes! (hence the red skin and spots!)

I'm one that loves a good skin care routine. I love the feeling of getting into bed and my face feels clean and fresh when it hits the pillow. Quite frankly in the evenings, I find it most relaxing! Especially when you throw a face mask treatment in there too.

A product that i've been liking quite a lot recently is something I didn't think much of when I selected it off the shop shelf on a whim. It's the Pond's Institute Cold Cream Cleanser. I had never heard of this brand before purchasing this product, to be honest i'd only ever notice it on the lower shelves inside drugstores. The packaging isn't exactly something that screams out at you in crazy colours or patterns, I wouldn't blame you if you walked right past it in the shopping isles.

I've been pleasantly surprised by this product! I really enjoy using it in the evening after a full days makeup is due for its time of removal! It's super easy to use too! Just slap some of the cream all over your face and be sure to massage your skin well enough that the cream picks up on all the dirt and grubbiness It's recommended that you do this for about a minute. You can use a clean cotton pad to remove the cream, but I prefer to use a warm damp face cloth, it really does the job. Having the steam from the face cloth open up and deep clean your pores really helps congested skin. After removing the cream, I find my skin is soft and nourished - perfect!

Pond's Instititue claim that this is a 'Three products in one' cream. Cleanser, eye makeup remover (I'd recommend taking off waterproof mascara and eyeliner with an oil cleanser, then using this cold cream after), and a face mask to nourish! - It's great value for money, I believe it was about £4/£5!

Product empties #1

I never realised how long it actually takes to collect and accumulate finished empty bottles. Even the organisation of where to keep them without accidentally binning them! Some of these products I have had for a while and some are used on a daily basis!

So, starting from the left over to the right in my first image we have -

Trevor Sorbie Curls and Waves Light Hold Cream - £5.50
This is probably my favourite product to use in my hair when i'm having it styled with its natural curl. My hair isn't as curly as ringlets, but when using this product in wet hair, then leaving to dry out naturally it makes my curls well-kept and healthy looking without looking greasey or feeling crispy (which sometimes curl holding products like styling moose can leave. The product smells really nice without smelling typically like a hair product (if that makes any sense?!) No one wants to be stinking of chemicals aha! I would definitely repurchase this product again and again. I think this particular tube in the photograph it's maybe my third tube? There's two variations available for this curl cream. The light version (which i would suggest for those with medium/shorter hair) and the heavier version for those with longer hair and longer layers.

LOreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil for All Hair Types - £9.99
This product is an absolute must in my hair care routines. I've gone through numerous bottles of the stuff! It really nourishes my hair, and for the value it is, I really couldn't recommend it enough! I previously purchased a premium hair serum under the L'Oreal brand which cost me perhaps over double the amount than this one. Even though i'm a firm believer that in some cases if you pay more for something, you get a better result. That is not the case for these serums. The Extraordinary Oil also comes in serveral variations, normal hair, coloured hair, and fine hair.

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water - £4.99
For those of you on the bloggosphere, i'm sure you have heard/read about this product. It used to be compared to the popular Bioderma Micellar water, but won the hearts of many for being a fraction of the price! I use this every morning and every evening in my skincare routine.  I wont go into too much detail because i've written a blog post about this a little while back. I love finding out that not long after writing that post, I had my mum inform me that she not only purchased the stuff to use herself, she purchased several bottles to stock up in case she struggled finding the stuff due to the demand and hype!

Tea Tree Toner Water - from £3.95
This is my favourite toner to use in my skin care routine! You can tell it's loved by the worn out packaging aha! I enjoy using tea tree infused products on my skin even if I might not actually have spots. I like to think of it as preventing future ones ;) I'm not local to a Lush shop in my area, but next time I pass one i'll certainly be purchasing the large bottle!

Sanctuary Exfoliating Pore Refiner - £10.50
"This facial scrub not only cleanses and exfoliates but also contains eco-particles to gently open clogged pores and witch hazel to help minimise the appearance of enlarged pores." I'd say this does exactly what it says on the tin (tube). I would use this perhaps 2-3 times a week, since the exfoliating beads can feel a little tough on the skin if you over-do it. I think this is a great product, but for the cost that it is, I believe there are other face exfoliants that do the same job (maybe even better?) at a lower price.

Avene Cleannce Cleansing Water - £16
For something that cost me £16, it's terrible to say that I purchased this by accident. I thought it was something else when I was in a rush one day. I still decided to keep it and finish it off. This is a similar product to the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water, but about 4 times the price. This is a good product don't get me wrong, but I doubt i'd be purchasing this again, since the Garnier water is just amazing for its cost!

Well that's all my product empties for now. Have you used any of these before? What have you finished recently?

#OOTD - September Edition

Dress - Monsoon
Necklace - Accessorize
Bracelets - Accessorize + Accessorize
Coat - Newlook
Shoes - Primark

Have you ever had one of those days? You've got yourself dressed and fixed together a makeup look, you take a glance in the mirror then think... 'ooh, i'm having a good outfit day' soon followed by taking far too many photos to find that single perfect instagram shot? I'm sure we've all had that at least once ;)

I find this outfit to be lovely for this time of year, the materials aren't too thick but layering up is handy for these colder days that are trying to introduce themselves at this time of year. Even the variety of colours that are featured in the dress are bright and bold without being too summery!

I was about to leave for a meeting at work - having a good outfit day only gave me confidence before and as I entered the meeting. (not that it was even a fashion focused meeting! But everyone loves a good ego boost!)

Early autumn is probably one of my favourite times of the year. It's not too cold, but the leaves are beginning to turn golden brown! You begin to see emerald greens, rich burgundys, wine reds, and royal navy blues creep into clothing lines, easing out of summer and welcoming the winter ahead!

I hope you enjoyed this type of post - I'd love to feature more OOTD's if you guys like it! Be sure to leave me a comment below! x

“I hope she'll be a fool -- that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.”

This is the little follow on post of the goodies I picked up at the Luna Cinema showing of The Great Gatsby. I got some free makeup samples as part of my ticket, I purchased a couple more and a makeup bag!

I picked up 2 samples of the They're Real! Mascara, 1 sample of the They're Real! gel liner, Porefessional primer, and the moisuriser. I also purchased a cute benefit makeup bag that features a tiny mirror - how handbag friendly is that?!

I'm so very tempted to purchase the gel eyeliner pen. I'm wanting to understand people's reviews on the product. I'm reading/seeing that its amazing, or its not worth the hype. I want to know your thoughts. Leave me your review links in the comment section below. It would be much appreciated! :D I'm so glad I picked up the They're Real! Mascara, It's honestly so good, I don't think that I've tried another mascara so far that makes my lashes so lengthy!

"If personality is an unbroken series of successful gestures, then there was something gorgeous about him"

Hello! Apologies for the lack of posting recently, been a little bit of a busy bee at work. I'll be getting on top of my post scheduling asap! One thing i'm so excited to share with you is my first outdoor cinema experience with the girls. I posted a couple of pics on my instagram account, why not take a look?

Luna cinema's is an outdoor cinema that features particular films, at different locations across the UK. I was fortunate enough to see The Great Gatsby at Hatfield House. Much to my liking (hehe!) Benefit Cosmetics were also featuring as like a sponsor to the event. I love makeup, I love Benefit, I loved this outdoor cinema even more!

please over-look my happy gummy smile!

There was two different options for tickets at the event. Standard being a standard viewing - ie: bring your own seating, food, non reserved seating. Then there was a premium ticket holder - what the girls and I purchased - seating in director chairs, a benefit goodie bag, complimentary drink and food etc! Do love a bit of benefit makeup hehe! My next post is what Benefit goodies I got on the night. Keep an eye out!

The Great Gatsby is one of my favourite films. I really appreciate it more because I studied the book in school. The more I watch it, the more I love it! The following day I was left listening to the movie soundtrack and reading over quotes from the film. It's tempting to purchase the book again and have a read!

Have any of you been to an outdoor cinemas before? What did you see?
